Stage 1. About project

  • Artviso is an MVP web application project for art gallery management, available for desktop and mobile devices.

  • The application was created as part of the Dare IT mentoring program, in which I participated as a mentee on the UI design path, but the project also allowed me to take care of the area of UX design.

  • My cooperation with the mentor consisted of discussion. Subsequent stages of work were supplemented with feedback during 1:1 online sessions and through comments in Figma and Miro.

  • Constant contact with the mentor was an excellent opportunity to simulate teamwork. I managed to discuss the smallest details with her, which allowed me to implement solutions resulting from my own analyses, research and benchmarking into the project.

  • Working with an experienced UI/UX designer as a junior UI designer was an amazing experience.

Stage 2. Process phases

I based the project on the initial guidelines received from my mentor. These were the assumptions

of the proto-persons created for the project: the gallery manager and her assistant. This was an ideal basis for determining the main needs and functionalities that should be included in the MVP version of the application.

Stage 3. Problems/Goals

I based the project on the initial guidelines received from my mentor. These were the assumptions

of the proto-personas created for the project: the gallery manager and her assistant. This was
an ideal basis for determining the main needs and functionalities that should be included in

the MVP version of the application.

Stage 4. Research and benchmarking

I undertook research, which was an important starting point, taking into account the specificity of the market, product and client's guidelines. Having knowledge in the areas of this type of product, I was then able to perform benchmarking, which helped in choosing solutions.

Insights:
  • quick access to the most important functionalities of the application

  • filtering and sorting path should be on top, so that it is always available at hand

  • elements with similar functionality should be modular (e.g. cards of artworks, users or artists)

  • modern style, defining the nature of the industry

  • well-thought-out information architecture, allowing for the expansion of the application in the future

  • tooltips that help in using the application, also helpful during onboarding

  • the role of the admin and functionalities related to it, (such as activating/suspending artists' and users' accounts)

Stage 5. Final presentation and handoff

  • Compiled and presented a comprehensive project report to the internship team and stakeholders, detailing the design process, user testing findings, and final app design. The presentation highlighted the app's potential to foster social connections through shared dining experiences.

  • Prepared and delivered design specifications and assets to the development team, ensuring a smooth handoff and providing support during the initial stages of app development.

Reflections

This project was an invaluable opportunity to apply UX/UI design principles in a real-world setting, contributing to a product that promotes social connectivity and culinary exploration. It challenged me to think creatively about how to meet user needs and preferences, enhancing my skills in research, design, and collaboration. The experience underscored the importance of user feedback in the design process and the impact of thoughtful design on user engagement and satisfaction.
