Stage 1. Overwiew

Appointy is a web application with an intuitive system for booking visits in beauty salons. It was a conceptual task about presenting salon offers in a clear and orderly manner and to make reservations in the most convenient way possible for the user.

The decision to expand on this issue was made after many analyzes and discussions within the team. In this way, we took care of the booking process from the customer's perspective, which is often a difficult and complicated process, and at the same time it will facilitate the work of the beauty salon. Additionally, we decided that we would be able to go through the entire design process using our skills.

The business goal was very clear and specific for us. The customer does not leave the application because, using the intuitive interface, he can easily find the information he needs and make a reservation.

Stage 2. Teamwork

As the UI Designer, I was part of a design team that included a UX designer, QA & Manual Tester, IT PM and Frontend Developer. We focused on full cooperation and learned from each other. We worked in the Agile/Scrum system, in Jira and Confluence programs, in 2-week sprints.

Stage 3. My role

  • Participation in competitive analysis such as: booksy.com, znanylekarz.pl, booking.com

  • Benchmarking

  • Preparation of User flows for reservations

  • Wireframes Mid-Fi after the UX designer's mockups, which allowed the QA & Manual Tester to test the functionality

  • and correctness of the design

  • Development of the application name and logo along with branding

  • Preparing Wireframes Hi-Fi

  • Developing a style guide with components

Stage 4. Target audience

The proto-personas we created are customers of beauty salons who use similar booking systems and struggle with unintuitive, illegible interfaces and overly complicated booking flows in similar products available on the market.

Stage 5. Goals

The goals we set show how important customer orientation was to us. We managed to achieve a balance between the visual side of the application and its functionality, enhancing the main aspects of the reservation system with UI design.

  • Clear and attractive layout, readability and hierarchy of information.

  • Important information always at your fingertips: the Your All Appointment panel is always visible, where upcoming appointments are primarily visible.

  • Possibility to make a reservation from various levels of the application, which can greatly speed up and help with re-booking: Book your appointment panel, Your All appointment panel.

  • Possibility to make any changes to the reservation: rebooking, cancellation, change of data such as: beautician, type of treatment, beauty salon.

Summary

To sum up my several months of work on the Appointy project, I can see that the project allowed me to develop new skills and set new challenges. While going through the entire design process, I was able to for the first time or once again:

  • conduct a competition analysis

  • use the Double Diamand model

  • work in a team

  • train your skills in giving and receiving feedback

  • work in a sprint

  • use Jira and Confluence software

  • hand off the project and cooperate with the fronted developer at this stage
